Home Counties Entlebucher Walk – Burnham Beeches July 13th

We have an Entlebucher walk coming up in the next couple of weeks, organised by Sybil (Eroica vom Rickental at Skyeannroos) (and Robyn Burnett).

The walk will be on Saturday 13th July, meeting at 10.30am at the Burnham Beeches café / toilets (https://what3words.com/cone.hogs.dawn)  for a walk of around an hour – Sybil’s advice is to wear good footwear if you are a human. It is a little hilly but not too bad.

Please email chairman@entlebucher.co.uk or Robyn skyeannroos@gmail.com if you plan to attend. We look forward to seeing you there.

Southern Entlebucher Walk – Alice Holt Forest

Ted (Caicosroos Domino) is inviting you to join him for a walk on Sunday 11th August at 10.30am. The plan is to meet at Alice Holt Forest, just 3 miles south of Farnham, at a place called Bucks Horn Oak, Surrey . Satnav post code GU10 4LS.

Car parking is (cashless) £5.60 for 2 hours, £10 for 4 hours (and a kidney for all day.)  Ted’s human Rob can give directions to a Forest Car Park (not tarmacked) 150m from the entrance where parking is free but first come first served. There are toilets and a dog friendly cafe at the central area as well as a children’s play area, Go Ape, gift shop, picnic tables and bike hire for those that require it.

Ted is suggesting a 3 mile forest walk that takes 60 to 90 mins. It’s not flat, but not far off. It is largely shaded and can be muddy after rain (although there are also drier tracks). Ted says ‘Apart from in the central area, dogs can run free. There’s no livestock although it being a forest there’s the wildlife you expect; deer, squirrel, rodents, amphibians and the odd reptile. Plus of course, people on bikes, joggers and of course other dog walkers. Take your pick as to which should concern you most.’

It would help Ted and his human, Rob, to know who to expect on the day, so please let us know by emailing chairman@entlebucher.co.uk if you plan to attend. We look forward to seeing you there.

East Midlands Entlebucher Walk – Tittesworth Reservoir

We will be holding an East Midlands Entlebucher Walk at Tittesworth Reservoir, Meerbrook, Near Leek, ST13 8SW on 7th April, meeting just in front of the visitor centre at 10.30am. For more information about the location, follow this link – Tittesworth Water | Our Visitor Sites | Severn Trent Water (stwater.co.uk).

If you’d like to join us for this walk, please email lynngibbins@btinternet.com. We look forward to seeing you there.

Please note that dogs will need to be on lead at all times due to the nesting birds and wildlife surrounding the reservoir.

Fun Day and 15th Birthday Celebrations

We will be holding our Summer Fun Day on 22nd June at Baginton Village Hall, Frances Road, Baginton, CV8 3AB, starting at 12.30pm. There should also be an opportunity for some off lead time for the dogs. Here’s a link to the Country Park with some more information – https://www.westnorthants.gov.uk/daventry-country-park

Breeding Test (Ankörung) – Saturday 16th September

Norton Lindsey, Warwickshire, CV35 8JQ

If you are interested in breeding from your dog or in your dog becoming a stud dog then there are three parts to the testing. The health tests, a character test and a test of conformation to breed standard. The health tests we can guide you through but require veterinary bookings with appropriate specialists. The character and conformation tests are run by the Club and have to be passed in order for your dog to be given Club
approval for breeding. This is entirely modelled on the Swiss system and is designed to ensure that the breed remains fit for purpose, true to breed type and of good character going forward.

We offer the character and conformation tests twice a year in May and September, with the next one being on Saturday 16th September 2023. To be entered for the Club Breeding Test your dog must be at least 18 months of age at the time of the test. The entry form which must be returned and payment for the test made to the Club account by Friday 18th August latest. The test will only run if we have entries and so that those running the tests have sufficient notice whether the test will be going ahead or not late entries will not be possible. The next test after this will be in May 2024 so bear this in mind if you are thinking of breeding from your dog and wanting to plan timings of when a first litter might take place.

If you want to know more of what is involved then please speak to Ros, Robyn, Sarah or your dog’s breeder and we can go through this in detail. We can also provide links to videos of previous tests and advice sheets to help you prepare and understand what your dog will undertake.

For those of you who do not wish to breed from your dog but who would like to either help or see what the tests entail, please email rosjkind@gmail.com so that wecan provide you with details. We do need a few helpers to assist with the character testing.

There are a couple of short uphill sections, but this is an easy walk, with refreshments available from the cafe at the visitor centre for anyone wanting to stay on after the walk. There are opportunities for off lead walking.

Details of the reservoir and how to get there, can be found here – https://www.stwater.co.uk/our-visitor-sites/tittesworth-water/

Northern Fun Day – Saturday 29th July

Brain Games for your Dog – with trainer Caroline Penistone

12:30-15:30 Kyle Valley Scouts, Tholthorpe, North Yorkshire
Address: Back Lane, Tholthorpe YO61 1SN

This promises to be an excellent and rewarding day for your dogs. Caroline previously gave us an introduction to Treibball and all the dogs and owners who attended that session had a very good day. This time Caroline will look at ways to keep our dogs stimulated and mentally active, which is definitely of benefit to any of our breed.

As this is a full fun day, the charge will be £2 per adult, free for dogs and children. The scout field gives plenty of space for your dogs to have a good run away from traffic. Fun days are a great way to meet other dogs and owners and share the joys and tribulations of owning our wonderful breed. Those waiting for puppies are always very welcome to attend. Tea and coffee will be provided but feel free to bring a picnic lunch.

Please email rosjkind@gmail.com if planning to attend
