The patter of tiny paws …

We’re please to let you know that the Club has had two matings recently. Sybil and Leo had a romantic encounter in Cornwall a few weeks ago, and Izzy and Bandet (pictured below) got together in the South East over the weekend. Everything seemed to go well for both couples, so we are keeping our fingers crossed for the patter of tiny paws in mid November and again in early December. Further pupdates to follow!

Addie (Adrienne from Torfheide)

We are very sad to bring you news that Addie passed away on 21 September, after a short illness. Addie was one of Shadow’s first litter, and much loved companion of Kathryn Sosville. Addie loved playing ball and is pictured below taking a well earned breather after a game. She will be reunited with her brother, Arnie, who crossed the rainbow bridge himself a short time ago. We send our love to Kathryn at this very difficult time.

And our first ever Zoom Quiz champions are…

Sian Baynton and her mum!

On 18th August we held our first ever Zoom Quiz to raise funds for the Rescue Fund. Eight teams entered and Sian and her mum were worthy winners of a close contest, just one point ahead of Ros Kind and Chris Platt! Apparently it’s important to know your dog breeds from your chicken breeds!

We’d like to thank everyone who entered the quiz and also those who donated – your contributions raised £355 for the rescue fund, which is very much appreciated. Also, thank you to our quiz master for the evening, Lucy Lewis, who did a sterling job!

Look out for details of our Christmas Quiz!

Buddy’s (Alfie Bangwood) achievements recognised by the Kennel Club

We are pleased to announce that Buddy has qualified for the Kennel Club’s Show Certificate of Excellence. This is awarded to dogs who have achieved over 50 points in General and Group Open shows. It’s an amazing achievement for a dog in an import category and deserved recognition of all the hard word Buddy and his owners, Sian and Darren Baynton, have put in. Congratulations – we’re very proud of you all!

Arnie (Arnold from Torfheide)

It is with a very heavy heart that I bring you the news that Arnie died on 5 August. Arnie was Shadow’s first born pup, the first ever Torfheide pup. He was named after the vet in Switzerland who saved the day when Shadow’s chip failed after she mated. Arnie’s family are devastated. He had surgery for a torn cruciate yesterday and came through it fine, but then this morning while still at the vet had a heart attack after a short walk. Sadly CPR was unsuccessful. Our love to Ceri Eagling and all the Eagling family at this very difficult time

Kai (Aarton from Goose Meadow)

We were very sad to hear yesterday of the death of Kai (Aarton from Goose Meadow) at the age of 11 years and 4 months. Kai was one of only the second litter to be born in the UK from an Austrian dog brought into the UK already in whelp. His sister Shadow went on to be mother of 22 of the UKs puppies. He also had two brothers. Freddy who sadly dies some years ago and Rocky who lives in Germany. Our thoughts go to Kai’s family at this very sad time.

Puppies!

We are very pleased to announce that yesterday (27 April), Lia (Ophelia Vom Gspan) gave birth to five beautiful, healthy Entlebuchers. The three boys, Bach, Brahms and Bartok and two girls, Berlioz and Bliss are all doing well, as is Mum. Congratulations to the proud parents, Lia and Tsjerno and also to Lia’s humans, Vanessa and Steve.

In memory of Alfie

Today is a very sad day for all Entlebuchers and their humans in the UK and beyond. Yesterday we said goodbye to our founding Entlebucher, Alfie (Einstein van de Tiendenschuur) as he lost his long battle with illness and crossed the rainbow bridge. Alfie was well known to many of us, not only in person, but through his daily blog, and will be greatly missed by all of us. We send our sincere sympathies to his humans, especially Ros and Chris, and to his housemates, Shadow, Aristotle and Wilma.

Crufts success!

Congratulations to Sian Baynton and Buddy (Alfie Bangwood) on not only winning the Import Working Class Group at Crufts, but getting through to the final cut in Group judging. As Frank Cane said, Buddy is a very good looking dog and well deserved his place in the final eight. So lovely to see all Sian’s hard work rewarded and a great advert for our wonderful breed!

Breeding Update

We have exciting news for our breeding programme this year, with the possibility of several litters coming up.

Lia (Ophelia vom Gspan) visited Belgium towards the end of February and successfully mated with Tsjerno. Izzy (Cara-Isabella vom Kornried), meanwhile, is just getting ready to head to the Netherlands to meet her intended, Tyga. She’s currently expecting to travel on Thursday, so we wish her and Tyga well.

If all goes to plan, that means we’re hoping to be announcing the arrival of two litters and lots of lovely puppies in April and May. So, if you’re thinking an Entlebucher might be the dog for you, now is a great time to join our puppy list. Let us know by contacting our Puppy Coordinator (puppies@entlebucher.co.uk) and, if you’re planning on visiting Crufts, please pop by our Discover Dogs stand and say ‘Hello!’
