2022 Ankörung

On 4 September 2022, the Club held its first full Ankörung since the start of the Pandemic. Despite the weather forecast, the rain stayed away and three Entlebuchers were put through their paces. We’re pleased to report that Betty (Top Notch z Zamkowego Grodu at Waldershelf), Groot (SwissDawn Bliss) and Hollie (Skyeannroos Ascona) all passed with flying colours. Thank you to Emily and Phillip English, Michelle and James Flint and Sian and Darren Baynton for putting such wonderful examples of our breed forward for the test.

Thanks also to Rosemary Kind, Robyn Burnett, Mark and Sheila Leighton, Lynn and David Gibbins, Sarah Fulker and Michelle Howarth, not forgetting Polly, Dotty, Salvo, Izzy, Wilma, Shadow, Ari and Georgia, for helping to make the day such a great success.

Membership Secretary retires

On Sunday we marked the retirement of our Membership Secretary, Mark Leighton, with a presentation by the Club Chairman, Rosemary Kind. Mark has been Membership Secretary for seven years, and the Club would like to thank him for all his hard work during that time. We are pleased that Mark has agreed to continue to act as an assessor for the character test at our twice yearly Ankorung and we look forward to seeing him there. Lynn Gibbins has taken on the role of Membership Secretary going forward.

Southern Fun Day 2022 – Postponed

Unfortunately, due to the extremely high temperatures predicted for this weekend, we have taken the difficult decision to postpone the Fun Day for the time being. Please check this page for future updates.

Join us for our Southern Fun Day at Ryslip Kennels on 13th August. This will be an agility event with plenty of opportunity for the dogs to run and jump. Pictures from previous events together with directions to Ryslip Kennels are below.

Heidi (Amaryllis Tytoalba)

It is with great sadness that we have to let you know that yesterday Heidi crossed the rainbow bridge. As many of you will know, Heidi was born with Ectopic Ureter, a condition which is life limiting and most puppies born with that condition die at birth or before the age of three. Heidi amazed us all and reached the grand age of six. Despite her health issues, Heidi was an incredibly happy dog with a beautiful character and all those who had the pleasure of knowing her, loved her very much.

Heidi spent most of her six years with her adopted humans, Sarah and Amber, and step-sisters Bella and Babeli. She also spent many happy holidays with Chris and Jeff, and their Entlebucher, Ruby.

I leave the final words of this tribute to Sarah.

“We made her a flower collar and she crossed the rainbow bridge looking like a queen with dog roses, lavender, red roses, buttercup, daisy and willow around her neck, she looked beautiful. Everyone who sees her body will know that she was very very loved.

She had a great day of ‘favourites’ … she went to the river, got a brand new tennis ball which is with her and she had sausage rolls for tea!”

Our thoughts are with Sarah, Jeff and Chris at this difficult time.

Rest in peace Heidi Roo.

Dickens (Torfheide Bumble)

We are very sad to tell you that Dickens passed away on 23 March 2022. Dickens was 9 years old and much loved by his humans, Sheila and Mark.

Dickens loved playing ball, going for walks and taking trips with Sheila and Mark in the car. He achieved Bronze, Silver and Gold Citizens awards and even tried his paw at Flyball at which he became a competent team member, despite not being a natural ball retriever. He enjoyed scent work and man trailing and has the proud honour of being the first Entlebucher to be placed at Crufts, taking second place in the very first class for Import Working Dogs.

Dickens was very loved within the Club and will be very much missed by all those who knew him. We send our love to Sheila and Mark at this difficult time.

Hendrix (Aukisson Swisstricolour)

It is with great sadness that we have to let you know that Hendrix passed away on 1 December. Taken far too soon, Hendrix was much loved by all those who had the pleasure of knowing him. We’d like to share Adrian’s words with you. .

“We’re both absolutely broken to be saying this but unfortunately we had to say goodbye to Hendrix yesterday morning. Everything happened very quickly with him falling ill on Monday and suddenly on Wednesday morning we discovered he had advanced cancer on his liver and spleen with nothing that could be done for him. He had fallen so ill so quickly that all we could do was comfort him one last time. Needless to say we are taking this very hard, he was a complete part of our lives and we know that everyone who got to know him will understand the loss. We know he was loved by so many of you also and that you, like us, are missing him.”

We send our love to Adrian and Katherine at this very difficult time.

CaicosRoos C litter has arrived!

We are delighted to announce the safe arrival of CaicosRoos C litter yesterday – two little boys, Charlie Chaplin and Capella, and three little girls, Cup Cake, Coralie and Camille. Mum and puppies are all doing well. Congratulations to the proud parents, Babeli CaicosRoos and Ron (John Snow d’Isolagerre)!

A special delivery!

A couple of months ago, Sybil (Eroica vom Rickental) took a short holiday in Cornwall, where she had a bit of a holiday romance with the handsome Leo (Torfheide D’Artagnan)! Today, Sybil gave birth to a beautiful little girl puppy and we’d like to congratulate the proud parents on her safe arrival. Pup is from Skyeannroos kennel and is yet to be named, but we think you’ll all agree that she is absolutely gorgeous!

Why not take part in our online Christmas Quiz?

After the success of our first ever Zoom Quiz in August, we’re holding our Christmas Quiz on Tuesday 8 December at 8.00pm. All are welcome, whether members of the Club or not, and all proceeds will go to the Entlebucher Mountain Dog Club Rescue Fund. If you’ve not done an online quiz before, why not give it a go – there will be questions for everyone, including picture rounds and a 50/50 round. We look forward to seeing you there!

Orson from Balihara Ranch

It is always very sad when we hear of one of our dogs passing over the rainbow bridge and this year in particular, we’ve already said goodbye to too many of our Entlebucher friends! We are therefore very sorry to have to tell you that Orson from Balihara, one of our founding dogs, passed away yesterday at age 13. Born on 4th April 2007, Orson was the proud uncle and chief puppy sitter to Queenie’s litters. Orson was a truly gentle, though timid, much loved dog and our thoughts are with Kristina and Ed at this difficult time.
